HOGMANAY (NEW YEAR) IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS
Tuesday 30 December 08 - Friday 2 January 09
Gemmaway is delighted to offer you something very special, New Year (Hogmanay) in the beautiful Highlands of Scotland.
There is
absolutely no better place to welcome in the New Year
than in Scotland, where it is by far the biggest
celebration in the calendar.
In Scotland the festival, known as Hogmanay, is celebrated throughout the land, but nowhere more so than in the wee towns and villages. A traditional Hogmanay holiday in Scotland is something you will always remember.
The Highlands are World renowned for
their awe-inspiring scenery with craggy mountains, and
spectacular lochs and glens. Idyllically situated in a
breathtaking lochside setting at the foot of dramatic
Glencoe, a warm welcome awaits you at our historic hotel
- a luxury Highland home from home with the added
attraction of an adjoining 9 hole golf course!
This special tour includes a full
programme of entertainment, with a Scottish flavour,
including a piper and dancers. The main event is, of
course, a Gala Hogmanay dinner followed by a Ceilidh
(party) on New Year’s Eve with music, dancing, the
traditional ceremony for New Year of “First Footing”,
and much more!
Included on New Year’s Eve is a full
day tour through the stunning scenery of the
Western Highlands to Fort
William, lying in the shadow of Ben
Nevis, the tallest mountain in Britain. Here,
we take a tour of The Ben Nevis
Distillery, one of the oldest whisky
distilleries in Scotland with, of course, some tasting
to get you in the mood for tonight’s festivities! There is
also an option to take the ‘Gondola’ (enclosed cable
car), for a breathtaking fifteen minute journey high up
the north face of Aonach Mor, the eighth highest
mountain in Britain. On a clear day the views are
spectacular, and there is, of course, a café at the top.
Hopefully, we shall also have time for a visit to a
woollen mill, for some last minute shopping in the Old
Year.
After a relaxing start and brunch on
New Years Day, why not join us for a guided walk to
stunning Glencoe
, scene of the
infamous massacre of the MacDonalds in 1692. Alternatively, just
relax in the hotel or maybe play a round of
golf. For the really adventurous, make your own way to ‘The
Ice Factor’, the biggest indoor ice climbing facility in the world,
where you can learn the elements of ice and rock
climbing.
