SOUTH WALES AND THE WYE VALLEY

This weekend tour departs on Saturday morning and takes us along the beautiful WYE VALLEY to the majestic ruins of TINTERN ABBEY and then onto the historic market town of MONMOUTH. After lunch, we travel to the magnificent CAERPHILLY CASTLE one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture, before arriving at our hotel in time for dinner in its fine restaurant.

After breakfast on Sunday, our first stop is at the important Roman Ruins at CAERLEON, and then onto CARDIFF for an optional tour of the incredible Victorian fantasy of CARDIFF CASTLE. Here the 3rd Marquis of Bute and his architect let their imagination run riot. This afternoon we visit the superb MUSEUM OF WELSH LIFE where numerous original historic buildings have been re-erected and accurately furnished, all set in the extensive grounds of ST. FAGANS CASTLE. Amongst many other things, you will be able to try the freshly baked bread from the traditional old bakery, throw a pot at the pottery, and even visit our Celtic ancestors in their bronze age village.

Our country hotel is situated at the edge of the BRECON BEACONS NATIONAL PARK and whilst providing every modern convenience, still retains the character and style of a fine Georgian country house, with its oak paneling and open fireplaces. The hotel also boasts an excellent restaurant serving freshly prepared local produce where a 3 course dinner may be pre-booked at a special rate of £18.50 adults and £12 for under 12’s.
