StonehengeMYSTERIOUS ANCIENT ENGLAND
Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 June

This tour takes us back in time to when England was a series of Kingdoms, one of the most important of which was the Anglo Saxon Kingdom of Wessex.

The capital of this ancient kingdom was WINCHESTER, where King Alfred the Great held court.  Nowadays Winchester is famous for one of the most magnificent cathedrals in Europe and the famous ‘Round Table’. You will have time to explore this thriving city and its museums.

Salisbury Cathedral
Yet another historic city dating from Saxon times is SALISBURY, where the cathedral spire is the tallest in England.  Here too, you will be have time to explore and shop.

Going back in time even further,  to the dim distant world of pre-history, our tour will also visit STONEHENGE,  one of the most famous World Heritage Sites, whose mysteries are still unexplained, and about which endless books have been written.

Also dating from this period,  we visit  the haunting and mysterious prehistoric sites of  AVEBURY and SILBURY HILL, which many people find as impressive, although less well known,  than Stonehenge.  Lunch will be in the typical English country town of MARLBOROUGH, with its fine Georgian High Street.

Our overnight accommodation is situated in SOUTHAMPTON, the home port of many of the world famous transatlantic liners.
